The power of the Steam content delivery platform is amply demonstrated this morning, word reaching us that super-modder Garry Newman has made revenue of 3 million USD, selling his Gary's Mod game via the platform.

The game sells for 10 USD a go via the PC online service, and what began life as a Half-Life 2 mod has mushroomed into a Source engine-powered open world experience.

"The popularity took me and Valve by surprise. As soon as it went on sale the Steam servers were temporary knocked out, due to the demand," Newman tells his blog.

"On the first day it sold 5,729 copies. Wowzer… Over the next 2 years it went on to sell 312,541 copies. Which has totally knocked my socks off."

The power of Steam, my friends...
